Written Response Scoring
Overview
The Written Response Scoring feature allows administrators and teachers to manually evaluate and score students’ written or open-ended responses. This ensures accurate assessment of subjective answers that cannot be graded automatically.

When Written Response Scoring Is Required
Tests include essay-type or short-answer questions
Responses require human judgment rather than automatic grading
Partial credit or qualitative feedback is needed
How to Score Written Responses
Log in using an Administrator or Teacher account.
Navigate to myDeskMate - Manage Online Tests
Select the relevant class, test, or assessment.
click View/Score Test
Review the student’s written answers carefully.
Enter the appropriate score for each written response question.
Add feedback or comments if the option is available.
Click Save or Submit Scores to finalize the evaluation.
What Happens After Scoring
The student’s total score is automatically updated.
Scores become visible in View Student Scores once saved.
Any feedback provided may be visible to the student, depending on system settings.
Best Practices for Written Response Scoring
Use consistent grading criteria or rubrics for fairness.
Review responses carefully before submitting scores.
Provide constructive feedback to help students improve.
Ensure all written responses are scored before publishing final results.
Important Notes
Written responses are not included in final scores until they are manually graded.
Only users with the required permissions can score written responses.
Once scores are submitted, changes may be restricted based on system settings.
Troubleshooting Tips
If scores are not updating, ensure all written questions have been graded.
Refresh the page after saving scores to confirm updates.
Verify that the test attempt is marked as Completed.
When to Contact Support
Contact the support team if:
Written responses are not visible for scoring
Scores do not save correctly
You encounter permission or access issues
Provide the test name, student name, and a brief description of the issue when contacting support.
